About us
Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach him to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime. Chinese proverb
Welcome to the website of the Duhovka - Škola Hrou elementary school. In 2010, Škola Hrou elementary school became part of the Duhovka Czech-English bilingual education system, which offers comprehensive and integrated educational services for children from preschool age through to adulthood (2 ½ - 19 years). The schools in the group are intrinsically connected, each one building on the stage before, allowing children to progress smoothly and steadily up through the levels.
The Duhovka schools offer Czech-English bilingual education based primarily on the method of Maria Montessori. At the same time, though, we remain open to other teaching approaches, choosing precisely the approach that is suitable for the age group and needs of the children.
Duhovka - Škola Hrou is a first-stage elementary school, and accepts children from grades one through five. Each class contains a mixture of age groups, which supports the learning process and the naturally harmonious interaction of children. Each class has 18 children and two Montessori-trained teachers - a Czech teacher and an English-speaking teacher.
Our aim is to create an environment that meets the natural developmental needs of the children. Duhovka encourages children to develop independence, awareness of their responsibility for their creations, and an active approach to life. We place particular emphasis on the children learning to think in context, and simply being ready to take on whatever life brings. We teach them to find their own way and live their own lives, rather than following paths "mapped out" for them by their parents and society.
If we summarized our approach, it would be:
Respect for all children, teachers and parents, as unique and irreplaceable human beings, with all their rights and needs, traditions and differences. We offer an environment of safety and trust, where both child and teacher can confidently develop their nature, originality and imagination.
