Your first chance to get to know our school is on our Open Day. Visitors can come and watch classes, chat with the teachers, and develop an idea of how the school works. On your visit, you will be accompanied by a student "guide", so you can hear first-hand what the children think about their teachers, school activities and events.
There are two possible dates for the next meeting, in December or in January. This meeting is primarily intended for discussion about the concept and philosophy of the school and Duhovka as a whole (i.e. its complete educational system, running from preschool through to high school graduation, of which Duhovka - Škola Hrou is a part). On this evening, you can tour the entire school again, meet the owner of the school, some of the teachers and the principal, and get detailed information about the whole admissions process.
The next step is an individual meeting on a set date with the school's owner and principal to submit an application for enrollment. The main purpose of this meeting is to clarify the needs and expectations of parents and their agreement with what the school offers. This is also a further opportunity for parents to ask about anything relating to the school, and Duhovka's education system and philosophy.
The admissions process is completed by enrollment, which takes place in early February. Children come to visit the school in groups for a roughly one-hour program where they meet with the teachers. Part of the program consists of school readiness tests.
To be "on the safe side", we always recommend that parents also register their children for enrollment at another chosen school as well as Duhovka - Škola Hrou. Once a child has been admitted to our school, it's enough to notify this fact to the other school in person or in writing.
We're aware of the sensitivity of the decision about whether a child will go to our school or not. It's important to us that children shouldn't feel they have failed in any way or done something wrong. And so we ask parents to present this day to their children simply as a visit to a school they might attend if places are available.
The following are a few points relating to our admissions criteria:
- We're interested in parents' reasons for choosing our school. Their expectations and needs are of key importance for us, and we always consider carefully whether they match up with our own conception and capacities.
- The order in which we receive applications is an important signal for us about when parents decided to apply for enrollment, and when they definitively chose Duhovka - Škola Hrou and confirmed this in writing.
- Graduates from the Duhovka Preschool are given priority - the children come to us from a Montessori background, and we can be sure that their parents are looking for continuity in the way their children are educated.
We don't publish the reasons for our decision, and no places are kept in reserve for possible appeals. Sometimes, parents whose children have been admitted do not conclude an Educational Services Agreement with us after all. In these cases, we contact the parents that we wrote to earlier, informing them that they were on the reserve list.
